Maryland and California Offices: Director: Fran Levin Bowman, M.Ed., is a Fellow in the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. Fran has had over 36 years experience in teaching, testing, and guiding families of children with learning differences. Fran is the author of Bowman's Orton-Gillingham "Plus" Guidebook. She has taught courses in all areas of special education to graduate education students, at five different colleges. Fran is an adjunct faculty member in the Graduate Department of Education at Goucher College in Towson. She is a former President of the Maryland Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. Fran is a recipient of the prestigious R.M.N. Crosby Award, a lifetime achievement award, given each year by the Learning Disabilities Association and the International Dyslexia Association, to one distinguished educator in Maryland. Fran is consultant to the Monacassy Valley Charter School, The Foundations Charter School, and the Bishop Walsh Pratt Program for Dyslexic Students. Fran is a member of the Excellence in Government Group which investigates accommodations for adults who working in governmental agencies.

Educational Consultant/Diagnostician/Advocate: Kelley Horvath, M.A. is an Educational Consultant, specializing in academic evaluations, consultation, and advocacy. With 17 years of experience as an educator in both general and special education settings, she is committed to improving achievement for all students by providing screening, intervention, evaluation, and treatment for students with learning differences. Kelley received her Master's degree in Leadership in Teaching from College of Notre Dame as well as her Post-Master's certificate in Special Education. She completed additional coursework in Fran Bowman's Orton-Gillingham Training Course and Visualizing and Verbalizing Program, Project Read, and Nanci Bell's On Cloud Nine Program. She has previous experience working as a Language Arts Facilitator, Academic Coach, and Special Education Team member. Using her extensive experience and training, Kelley is able to guide families through the educational process with knowledge, sensitivity and compassion. Workshop Leaders: Fran Bowman (bio above) and Garth Gerstenblith. Garth Ann Gerstenblith is an academic coach specializing in improving study skills, reading comprehension, thinking and writing in students with Executive Function issues. She has been involved in education for the last twenty years and now focuses on coaching high school students. While working at bowman educational services, inc. for the past eight years, Garth developed methods to help students improve their self-esteem through self-awareness and self-empowerment. At bowman educational services, inc., she leads workshops that she designed to help other professionals and parents understand and implement skills to help students overcome executive function roadblocks. After receiving a Master of Library Science degree from Columbia University and a Master of Fine Arts in Art History from George Washington University, Garth taught in Montgomery and Baltimore Counties. Garth continued her professional education with graduate level education courses in addition to Fran Bowman's Orton-Gillingham Training Course and Visualizing and Verbalizing Program. She left the traditional classroom setting after experiencing the impact of individualized organizational coaching on the academic growth of her students. The best part of her job is helping her students become independent learners. She is trained in the Orton-Gillingham and Lindamood-Bell methods for working with dyslexic students. She has completed the 60-hours of training in multisensory teaching of language arts, in accordance with the requirements of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. Kate enhances her academic coaching with dramatic techniques, combining her extensive knowledge and training in the dramatic arts with a solid understanding of the teaching of reading. These strategies create an unusually artistic tutorial style which generates tremendous enthusiasm in her work with students of all ages.
